In 1888 the narrow gauge railway between Vadstena and Ödeshög was opened. This was the start of tourism on Omberg. In 1892 Omberg's tourist hotel was opened in Alvastra, in 1914 Gyllenhammars Pensionat in Borghamn, in 1934 Stocklycke hostel.

Thanks to the railway connection, it was now easy for the nearest city dwellers to get to Omberg.

Borghamn's tourist hotel or "Ombergspensionatet" was founded in the former officers' mess of the Crown Labour Corps, a few metres above the harbour buildings, i.e. today's Borghamn Strand. This site was originally the Göta Canal Company's residence for the engineers. The military built a larger house with a glazed veranda facing the lake.

After the military had left Borghamn in 1894, the fair became first an inn, then a tourist hotel. To make room for accommodation, the upper floor of the large annex in the harbour was also rented.

The officers' mess had had a glazed veranda on the lake side. Around 1900, a double-storey veranda was first added at the eastern gable, the lower part also glazed. And then a similar one, but more prominently facing the lake on the western gable. The final design was characterised by all the postcards and memories that existed in later times. The officers' mess had had a glazed veranda on the lake side.

In 1957 the business was closed down. A year later, the railway to Hästholmen and Ödeshög was also closed. The century of automobile tourism began. For some time the building was the residence of the head of the country household school, a scout home and part of the hostel. Finally, "Liden" stood empty. In 2017, the plot and Borghamn Strand were separated from the ecopark. Liden was sold by Sveaskog and became a holiday home. The new owner is working on the renovation.
